COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) – You only have a few days left before Ohio’s Sales Tax Holiday expires. The tax-free holiday ends at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14.

This is the tenth year that state lawmakers have given Ohioans a tax break to help with back-to-school shopping. But school items are not the only things to go tax-free — anything under $500 will not have sales tax, including soda and eating in person in restaurants.

Items that are exempt from the tax-free holiday include alcoholic beverages, tobacco and vaping products, and any items containing marijuana. Motor vehicles, boats, and outboard motors are also excluded.

Local governments that depend on sales tax revenue will be reimbursed by the state of Ohio, so there will not be any loss of income during the two-week tax-free holiday.
