LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Students from across the state are putting their mental power to work to ensure that agricultural equipment has the power to feed America.

The University of Northwestern Ohio and the Ohio FFA hosted the state finals for the Agricultural Power Diagnostic Contest. Fifteen teams qualified by placing first or second in district contests, testing their knowledge by diagnosing problems on tractors, semis, and other equipment. Those who score the highest will earn scholarships to continue their education at UNOH.

Ohio students compete in Agricultural Power Diagnostic Contest

“The University of Northwestern Ohio, we have connections like no other school in the industry. We can put students anywhere they want to go. We can set them up with Co-Op programs, internships, and make sure that our workforce is supplied for the future,” says Lauren Reinhold, diesel instructor at UNOH.

“Agriculture is our number one industry in this country, and the bottom line is, everybody has to eat. And in order to be able to feed all these people, we need these machines to run so there will always be jobs. There will always be interest, and thank goodness we have students that want to take it up,” says Tom Oglesby, career development events coordinator for Ohio FFA.

A total of $75,000 in scholarships was available, with the winning team receiving a $10,000 scholarship to attend UNOH.
