LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - With spring just around the corner, plans for the annual Ottawa River Cleanup are underway. This year marks the 32nd year for the event, which has become a tradition in the region.

Many hands make light work, and that has been the case at the Ottawa River Cleanup. Thousands of people have participated over the years, cleaning up an unknown amount of trash and rubbish from the river. Organizers say volunteers can now sign up online at the City of Lima's website.

Ottawa River cleanup encourages community participation

With spring just around the corner, plans for the annual Ottawa River Cleanup are underway.

"We want them to make a good family event out of a good community-type spirit event and make our community cleaner," said Randy Kohli, security officer for the City of Lima Utilities Department. "We love to see our community doing well. We love to see the bike path looking as beautiful as it always does."

The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to pre-register, as they will receive a snack pack, a T-shirt, and a certificate of appreciation. Dress for the weather, and gloves are mandatory and will be provided. For more information, visit LimaOhio.gov.
