LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Rhodes State College hosted a drawing boot camp Saturday morning as part of its Rhodesology Mini Camp, offering young artists the chance to unleash their creativity. The camp introduced participants to various drawing techniques, allowing them to combine imagination with skill to create unique works of art—techniques included crumpled paper, stained glass, perspective and 3D drawing, and vortex drawing. Regardless of the method, students agreed that putting pencil to paper was a fun and rewarding experience.
“Because you can do different stuff, and you can draw whatever animal you want for someone or yourself,” said Siena Stober, 6, from Spencerville Schools.
When asked what she was learning at the camp, Siena shared her current project. “I am learning how to do something with a penguin by doing it, by crumbling it up and drawing it into a different art piece,” she explained.
Evie Turner, 8, from Waynesfield-Goshen Schools, said winter scenes inspire her art. “Probably draw winter scenes, since it is winter,” she said. And her favorite things to draw? “Snowflakes and a snowman, because it’s fun.”
While younger children focused on artistic creativity, older students were honing technical skills at the Youth CNC Bootcamp. This six-week course trains teens in the basics of CNC (computer numerical control) programming, including writing and troubleshooting code. Participants also learn 3D rendering techniques to design and machine intricate items.
