SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - Music filled the air Tuesday evening in Shawnee Township!

The Shawnee High School Marching Band was hard at work practicing for their 2024 festival show performance inspired by the Broadway play Wicked. The jazzy show will include renditions of famous songs including "No One Mourns the Wicked," "Defying Gravity," and "No Good Deed." In between drills and run-throughs, we talked with two students about not only the friendships associated with marching band but the educational components as well.

"We learn like lots of different step moves, so we forward march and we backward march... and then, we have to like align our shoulders with each other, so you learn to like rely on the people around you," says Lourie Rigali, Senior and Clarinet Section Leader.

The Shawnee High School Marching Band is inviting the community to come on out and watch them perform all the music and formations they have learned at band camp.

"We also learn about a lot of life skills like keeping yourself accountable from bringing your music and things, helping others who are struggling with the drill and the music, and just being supportive and a well-rounded person around everyone in your section and the whole band," says William Owen, Junior and the Drum Major.

The Shawnee High School Marching Band is inviting the community to come on out and watch them perform all the music and formations they have learned at band camp. The community performance will be this Friday, July 26th, at 7 p.m. beside the football stadium at Shawnee High School.
