LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Santa came to town early on Saturday, stopping at the American Legion to give presents to kids in need.
The Children's Christmas Party has been a tradition for several years at the Legion, and this year they were able to help over a hundred kids. After everyone got to meet Santa, dozens of bikes and tables full of gifts fit for children of different ages were handed out. It takes a lot of planning and sponsorship to give out so many presents, but those at the Legion say that it's well worth it to make sure as many kids as possible have a good Christmas.
"That's what we are about, to help the kids. We pride ourselves on doing just that. Once we see the smile on the kids' faces, we're more, more than happy," said Robert Shurelds, the commander of the American Legion Post 96.
The Sons of the Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary work with the American Legion every year to help fund and organize the giveaway.
