The Apple Festival at the Van Wert County fairgrounds is underway. And you can find a lot more than apples there this weekend.   Â
A variety of apples other homegrown produce and foods and crafts. Fresh cider, apple butter and maple syrup. As well as kids games and pony rides.Â
This year's event is dedicated to Tom Shockey, one of the people who first got the Apple Festival off the ground 29 years ago. He has since moved to Columbus, but what he helped start remains strong in Van Wert County.
Another important name in the history of the Apple Festival is Carl Lape, who to this day, is involved in bringing the festival to life.Â
More than 10,000 people showed up last year and they expect the same, or more, this year. He says things have changed since the first Apple Festival, 29 years ago. Â
The party continues Friday night at the Junior Fair Building with entertainment from Mount Pleasant Band and Happy Days. You can still visit the Apple Festival on Sunday from 9am to 5.
Admission and parking are free.Â
