Blue on Blue Basketball Game returns to support Auglaize County Special Olympic

WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — A friendly rivalry will return to the court on March 4 as local athletes and law enforcement officers face off to support a good cause.

The Auglaize County Special Olympics team will take on Auglaize County Law Enforcement in the Blue on Blue basketball game. The longtime county tradition serves as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics program.

Ahead of the matchup, athletes shared why they love the game and the competition.

“Just to hang out with friends and try to be the cops and shoot some baskets and see everybody,” says Genesis Slone, Auglaize Co. Special Olympic Athlete.

“Because I like to dribble,” says Cole Dicke, Auglaize Co. Special Olympic Athlete.

“I grew up shooting hoops every day for like hours on end.,” says Janele Zumberger, Auglaize Co. Special Olympic Athlete.

The reporter asked, “What's it like playing against the cops?”

“Because I think we're better than them,” adds Zumberger.

“Because we know we're better than them,” adds Slone

The Blue on Blue Basketball Game will be held March 4 at St. Marys High School. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Organizers will accept donations at the door and host a 50/50 drawing and raffle during the event. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Auglaize County Special Olympics program.
