CRIDERSVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) - Some riders got to experience a unique form of therapy as the Equestrian Therapy Program began its summer session Monday.
The horse's walk is a rhythmic and symmetrical gait that works the rider’s body, helping maintain proper postural alignment while stimulating the correct muscles. Through the motion of the horse, individuals with disabilities can experience greater self-awareness, increased attention span, and improved physical condition.
"For us riders, it provides us a release. We get to come out here for an hour. You can do it in the morning. You can do it in the evening. I come out here to see Mr. Buster Brown, enjoy the nature, get out of the house. Kind of helps with some other things. Sometimes he's pretty stubborn, wanting to get out of the class and everything, but keeping grounded is what I've learned," said Cynthia Phillips, a rider in the program.
