WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) - Children and families at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds spent their morning having a fun time learning about their health and wellness at the Grand Lake Health System's fourth annual "Children's Wellness Day" celebration.

Kids in attendance participated in activities centered around learning more about their health, as well as fun outdoor events including pony rides, bounce houses, and self-defense lessons. Following the theme of "Embark on the Grand Lake Health Expedition around the world," children traveled between booths to learn tips on living a healthier life.

Parents could also have their kid screened for vision, hearing, and other developmental areas while receiving important information on health resources in the area.

All throughout the event, vendors and community partners were present with handouts and informational pamphlets for adults, as well as prizes and other activities for kids to encourage healthy habits.

"If they don't know, they don't know, so we want to teach them how to eat healthy, get the activity, drink good drinks, because a lot of the time, kids are drinking Monster drinks, energy drinks, that type of thing. We want to make sure we're teaching them about drinking water when they're outside, sun, activities, and staying safe, so teaching both the child and the parent so the parent can keep up with those lessons as they get older," said Heather Jurosic, coordinator for the Grand Lake Children's Wellness Event.

Extra activities were included this year to expand the size and quality of the event, with the goal being to continue the growth of the program to get more kids educated on their health and well-being.
