If you need something call 2-1-1, that is what the United Way of Greater Lima is promoting.
It’s a service that connects individuals with agencies that can help meet their needs. Whether it’s an everyday need such as food or transportation to a crisis situation with mental health or substance abuse, the local call center can connect to the right resources. Since going to a local call center with trained operators in July of 2021 they have received more than 1,600 calls.
Coordinator Betsy Winget adds, “There’s probably 18 to 20 different services that we can assist you with and the operators are live right here in Lima. So, they know the community, they know where to refer people. Social service agencies in the community have signed up their services on the web. Folks that need help can text 2-1-1, they can call, they can also jump on the website and get the help that needs in a very fast manner.”
The 2-1-1 call center is also supported by the Area Agency on Aging and the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board. You can call 24 – 7 and get a live operator on the line. Today is National 2-1-1 day and Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith presented them with a proclamation for all the services they have been providing to area residents.
