The trial was scheduled to start Tuesday for the three Delphos City Schools employees charged with child endangering, but that case ended up getting dismissed.
High school principal Chad Brinkman, and teachers Maureen Rentz and Karissa Hoersten were facing misdemeanor charges of child endangering. The charges stem from an alleged incident of neglect of a student that took place on May 4th, 2021. Their attorney argued that the prosecutors didn't have any evidence to proceed with the case and that the people who were going to be called to testify were not experts. The judge ruled to dismiss the case against the school employees.
In January of this year, the charges were filed by the Van Wert city law director. This is after initial investigations were launched by the school district as well as law enforcement, and children's services in May of 2021. The district concluded that they were unable to identify any instance of child abuse, child neglect, or other employee wrongdoings that jeopardized the safety of any child.
