A Hardin County man was found competent to stand trial on charges involving kidnapping a 7-year-old girl in November 2021. Charles Castle was evaluated at the forensic diagnostic center and they say that he has the mental capacity to understand the nature of the proceedings of the trial. There will be another hearing on April 5th to discuss a trial date. His lawyers filed a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.
In the court documents, his lawyer writes that Castle may have had a mental illness and didn't understand the wrongfulness of his acts at the time of the offense. He was indicted by a Hardin County Grand Jury on 15 charges. Prosecutors say that on or around November 10, 2021, Castle took the 7-year-old from her home in Kenton and she was found alive on the 12th in a home outside the city.
