Friday August 2, 2024
0107 hrs. – Deputies made a traffic stop for speeding on U.S. Route 127 near the Van Wert Mercer County Line Road. Van Wert County Deputies were assisted at the scene by Mercer County Sheriff’s Office. After further testing and investigation, the driver was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol and or Drugs a First-Degree Misdemeanor, and a Fifth-Degree Felony charge of Improperly Handling Firearms in a Motor Vehicle. Steven Blake Berrett age 22 of Franklin Ohio was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.
0842 hrs. – Dog Warden responded to an area of Lincoln Highway in Washington Township for a report of two loose dogs.
0843 hrs. – Dispatched Middle Point EMS to a residence on State Route 709 in York Township for a subject with a neck injury.
1059 hrs. – Dispatched Convoy EMS to a residence on Richey Road in Pleasant Township for a subject with stroke symptoms.
1238 hrs. – Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Hoaglin Center Road in Ridge Township. Unit one was pulling out of the parking lot for Lincolnview Schools. The driver of Unit One admitted to pulling out in an aggressive manner causing his mustang to fishtail and lose control. The driver tried to regain control but could not when he ran off the road, striking a utility pole and snapping it from the ground. The driver was cited for failure to control. Unit One was a 2003 Ford Mustang driven by Johnathan Andrew Hamilton of Van Wert.
1318 hrs. – Deputies along with Van Wert Fire and EMS responded to the area of Lincoln Highway at U.S. Route 224 in Pleasant Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Van Wert Police also assisted at the scene. Unit One was traveling south on US 224 westbound. Unit Two was following Unit One. Unit One slowed down as it approached the intersection of US 224 and Lincoln Highway. Unit Two assumed that Unit O was going to turn left, eastbound, on Lincoln Highway. Unit Two began passing on the right side of Unit One in the intersection. Unit One began turning right, westbound, on Lincoln Highway. As Unit One began turning, Unit Two struck the passenger side of Unit One. One passenger from Unit One was transported to Ohio Health by Van Wert EMS. Unit One was a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by Megan Emily Wyrm of Reston Virginia. Unit Two was a 2019 International Semi driven by James Francis Cullifer of Sanford North Carolina.
1410 hrs. – Dispatched Convoy Fire to a residence on Harrison Willshire Road in Harrison Township for a report of a propane tank on fire.
1447 hrs. – Dispatched Convoy Fire to a automated fire alarm at a location on Main Street in the Village of Convoy.
1456 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. Route 127 in Liberty Township for a report of reckless driving.
1515 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. Route 30 in Pleasant Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash. A single vehicle was found in the ditch near U.S. Route 127, no injuries or vehicle damage were reported. The vehicle was towed from the ditch.
1530 hrs. – Deputies spoke with a resident from Lincoln Highway in Pleasant Township for a complaint of identity fraud.
1547 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Slack Road in Ridge Township for a complaint of trespassing.
1658 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of State Route 118 in Liberty Township for a report of a low hanging utility line.
1705 hrs. – Deputies along with Convoy Fire responded to a report of a vehicle fire on U.S. Route 30 in Union Township. It was found to be a vehicle overheating, no fire.
2000 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Spencer Drive in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.
2233 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of John Brown Road in Pleasant Township for a report of a hearing a gun shot.
2237 hrs. – Deputies along with Middle Point Fire and EMS responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on U.S. Route 30 in Ridge Township. Units located a semi-truck rolled over near Boroff Road. The incident was investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

0047 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of State Route 118 in Liberty Township to check a disabled vehicle in the roadway.
0144 hrs. – Deputies conducted a traffic stop on U.S. Route 127 in Liberty Township. After further investigation and testing the driver of the vehicle, Roy Conley Chandler of Van Wert was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol and or Drugs. He was later released and will appear in court at a later date.
0639 hrs. – Deputies took a report of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 118 in Liberty Township involving a deer, no injuries were reported.
0701 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Greenville Road in Ridge Township to check the residence and secure the doors.
0732 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Spencer Drive in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.
1031 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on U.S. Route 224 in Jackson Township to standby at as a peace officer.
1118 hrs. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a location on Towne Center Boulevard in the City of Van Wert for a subject who had fallen.
1143 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Woodland Avenue in the City of Van Wert for a report of two loose dogs.
1522 hrs. – Dog Warden responded to an area of John Yoh in Hoaglin Township for a report of two loose dogs.
1555 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Klinger Road in Tully Township to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.
1734 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of State Route 118 in Liberty Township for a report of reckless driving.
1848 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Lincoln Highway in Washington Township to check the welfare of a subject walking along the roadway.
1853 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Kreischer Road in Harrison Township to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.
1925 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Ohio Street in the Village of Convoy for a complaint of domestic violence. The incident remains under investigation.
2151 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Monroe Street in Tully Township for a report of a domestic dispute.
2220 hrs. – Dispatched Van Wert Fire to a location on Van Wert Decatur Road in Pleasant Township for a report of a brush fire.
2248 hrs. – Deputies along with Ohio City Fire and EMS responded to an area of Van Wert Willshire Road in Pleasant Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Unit One a 2021 Gray Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on Van Wert Willshire Road taking the curve eastbound. Unit One then went off road left traveling ending up on the driver side of the vehicle in the ditch. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was being driven by James Robert Yates of Lima.
2329 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on the Ohio Indiana State Line Road in Tully Township for a complaint of suspicious activity.

0050 hrs. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a location on Grill Road in Pleasant Township for a subject with abdominal pain.
0154 hrs. – Dispatched Convoy EMS to a residence on Main Street in the Village of Convoy for a subject who had fallen.
0450 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of State Route 116 in Ridge Township to check the welfare of a subject walking along the roadway.
0653 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Jackson Street in the Village of Wren for a report of a loose dog.
0926 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Lincoln Highway in Washington Township for a report of loose cows.
1302 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Liberty Union Road in Union Township for a report of a suspicious subject walking in the area.
1441 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of State Route 116 in Ridge Township on a complaint of a subject mowing and blowing the grass in the road.
1450 hrs. – Dispatched Ohio City and Van Wert EMS to a location on U.S. Route 127 in Pleasant Township for a report of a subject not breathing.
2048 hrs. – Deputies responded to a location on Blain Street in the Village of Scott for a report of a possible burglary. The location was in Paulding County. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office was contacted.
2053 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Franklin Street in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.
2141 hrs. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a residence on Collins Avenue in the City of Van Wert for a subject with a laceration.
2206 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Franklin Street in the Village of Convoy for a report of a vehicle that may have been tampered with.
