On Saturday one area family held its annual poker run, a special event that not only raises money for charities and organizations but celebrates the life of a lost loved one.

Dozens of people came out to 12th annual Dan King Poker Run. There were bouncy houses, a live and silent auction and a group of bikers who took off to visit their various poker run locations.

This event was created in memory of Dan King who died in November of 2007. The money raised every year from this event goes towards helping area charities and organizations.

The family is grateful for the support they have received over the past 12 years.

“The community is great with the support that they bring out,” said Teresa Barker, Dan King’s cousin. “I couldn’t be more thankful for the fact that there are so many that come out every year.”

Although this event has had a positive impact on the community every year, Dan King's sister says it's the right time to close this chapter.

“We just felt as a family that this was a good time to end the poker run,” said Melissa Johnson, Dan King’s sister. “Not end giving, not end remembering Dan. Just saying hey you know what, we’re maybe going to try something different next year. It’s still going to be in memory of Dan, it will still be fun and it will still bring lots of smiles.”

The family has so far has raised close to $160,000 and hopes to raise even more this year.
