CRIDERSVILLE, OH (WLIO) - A local church gave families and their kids an afternoon full of free fun.

Families come out to St. Matthew Lutheran Church for free Octoberfest

Church volunteers say that while it might not be the biggest and flashiest of the local festivals, the families always have a good time and appreciate the free fun.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church welcomed all to their annual Octoberfest celebration. Kids could play games for prizes like plinko and apple fishing and paint their own wooden pumpkins. Members of the church also served up a free lunch that included hot dogs and brats and tables full of desserts like pumpkin rolls and cookies to choose from. Church volunteers say that while it might not be the biggest and flashiest of the local festivals, the families always have a good time and appreciate the free fun.

"It's the fact that they can come and they know it's not going to cost them, and the kids can have a nice time. They are very happy to be outside and just have the ability to run around and play and be loud and not have to worry about anything," said Jennifer Morgan, the event coordinator and the bookkeeper at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. "It's just something for us to have community outreach and let them know that we're here."

Volunteers also hope that the event shows families looking for a new church the kind of friendly environment that their congregation offers.
