Farmers prepare for planting, more equipment on the road

Spring is almost here and that means farmers will be out working their fields as they prepare for planting.

More farmers in the fields means more equipment traveling county roads and highways in the area.

Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon wants motorists to be aware that more agricultural related vehicles will be out there.

Solomon says make sure you give the farmer plenty of room, don’t pass too quickly, look for hand signals and turn signals on the large equipment and pass the farm equipment at a slow speed.

“We’ve got a lot of farmers doing a lot of extra work late in the evening, early morning hours and it’s kind of a reminder to look out and watch out for these farmers and their equipment,” said Solomon.

Solomon says accidents between farm vehicles and regular motor vehicles haven’t been all of that prevalent but he notes a deputy was involved in an accident within the last five years, but wasn’t seriously hurt.
