Harris found not guilty in the murder of Eric Staup

After almost four hours of deliberation, the jury found Jayleon'tre Harris not guilty in the murder of Eric Staup.

Although Harris was found not guilty on count one, he was found guilty on count two, aggravated robbery with a firearm specification. The jury found the state did not prove without reasonable doubt Harris purposely murdered Staup.

Charges stem from the alleged murder of Staup on May 19, 2016 at his home on North Metcalf Street. Harris came into Staup's home to buy marijuana and proceeded to pull out a gun and rob Staup of marijuana and money. In closing remarks, the defense argued that yes the murder happened, but it was not purposeful.

This was Basinger's first trial as a prosecutor after retiring from his judgeship.
