Healthy Kids Running Series of Lima invites young athletes to come race

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The weather on Sunday couldn't have been any better for the first day of a running league that looks to get kids excited about fitness.

The Healthy Kids Running Series is a national nonprofit that hosts races for kids from ages 2 to 14. Depending on their age, they can participate in races as short as 50 yards or as long as a mile. There's plenty of places and clubs for adults passionate about running, but the nonprofit was started as a way to create a positive and encouraging space specifically for the youngest runners, who often don't have the same access to an exercise group.

"They're super excited. And even those who have maybe some bumpy weeks, right, they don't finish the way they want to, or maybe their time isn't as good—they come back every single week determined, and that's what we want. That's the purpose of this program: to learn sportsmanship, to believe in yourself, to be motivated. And it's just really exciting. We have so many happy kids here, so many happy parents, and it's been amazing—the results and the positivity we've had from this program," said Megan Joseph, the area coordinator for the Healthy Kids Running Series in Lima.

Registration will be open until the third week of the series, and there will be races held every Sunday through mid-May. To learn more, visit their website.
