There was a benzene release from the Lima Husky Refinery this week. A Husky Energy official in Canada has confirmed an incident at the Husky Lima Refinery.
Husky Media Manager, Mel Duvall confirmed to Your News Now that there was a small leak from a storage tank on Tuesday morning. Monitors on the property detected the higher levels of benzene. The source of the leak was found and after draining the tank, the benzene levels slowly decreased.
Duvall says at no point was any benzene detected by off site monitors. Staff were moved to alternative worked areas, all were protected and safe. How much benzene, an aromatic hydrocarbon that is highly flammable and an important component of gasoline was released, is not clear.
Normal operations continue at the facility.
