Healthy Hoops uses basketball as a platform to teach participants and their families how to better understand and manage their asthma and associated health conditions.

Asthma is the most common chronic disease among children, and according to the American Lung Association, almost 8 percent of Ohioans under age 18 have been diagnosed. Healthy Hoops uses basketball as a platform to teach participants and their families how to better understand and manage their asthma and associated health conditions.

"It engages kiddos in a number of different ways, from being active engaged, but also really boosting spirits and confidence, teaching healthy habits that can carry on throughout your entire life. So in addition to the basketball, we have some gentlemen here going to be talking about not starting tobacco, about managing asthma, and other healthy habits," said Tessie Pollock, communications and marketing director with AmeriHealth Caritas.
