The Lima Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met with Abby Schroeder of Kalida to learn more about the work she's done to make repairs and recreate burial records for the Old Union Township Cemetery.

Just one of the many significant people buried at the site is Nancy C. Lee, whose father fought in the Revolutionary War. DAR will be helping with grants and repairs to make sure the war and Kalida's history in the cemetery isn't lost to future generations.

"Having a true daughter here is just incredibly exciting. The fact that her husband fought in 1812, we've got a cousin of Abraham Lincoln. The history is just exuding here, so it's an amazing thing," said the Lima chapter regent of Daughters of the American Revolution, Lana Gerber.

Many in the community are keeping up with Schroeder's progress, some even pitching in time or money to help her.

"They've been very supportive of this project and I think everyone is enjoying hearing the stories of the families and maybe learning where they lived, or if they held a business here in town, where that business was at, and just being part of our original foundation," Schroeder said.
