LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima man will serve five to seven-and-a-half years in prison for an October shooting.

Brady Kurtz, 19, pleaded guilty in January to felonious assault with a deadly weapon. In exchange for the plea, a charge of having weapons under disability was dropped. Prosecutors say Kurtz had a 9-millimeter pistol when he shot an 18-year-old woman during an argument on Oct. 29, 2025. A representative from Crime Victim Services read a statement in court on behalf of the victim, detailing the physical and emotional trauma she suffered.

“He shot me one time, and it left eight holes in me. It went through my forearm, through my stomach, and out my back. I had a chest tube, two drains out of my stomach, and they had to cut my stomach open to give me a colostomy bag... I stopped hanging around people, loud noises bother me, I don't trust people. I trusted him and he tried to kill me,” a representative from Crime Victim Services said on behalf of the victim.

“There's not a night that I don't have nightmares from the situation. It truly impacts me a lot, like I wake up in cold sweats and stuff. I just want to say sorry to the victim and the family that it affected, anybody that it affected. I just ask for a second chance so I can get my life together,” Kurtz said in court.

After he completes his prison term, Kurtz will also be required to serve mandatory post-release control.
