LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima man will spend at least 16 years in prison for his role in a 2025 shooting that police say stemmed from a drug deal turned robbery.
Javeon Whisenton, 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and two counts of felonious assault. As part of a plea agreement, additional charges were dismissed.
According to the Lima Police Department, Whisenton was identified as the suspect in the shooting of a man on Oct. 12, 2025, near the intersection of Wayne and North Collett streets in Lima, Ohio. Officers responded to reports of shots fired and found a man suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Detectives said the shooting occurred during a drug transaction that escalated into a robbery.
In addition to the robbery and assault charges, Whisenton pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon. He was sentenced to six months in prison on that charge, which will be served consecutively to his 16- to 21-year sentence on the other convictions.
