BATH TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - Business leaders and community members alike enjoyed a nice evening out at 19 Hawthorne while helping Lima Memorial Health System improve the quality of care.
Friends of the Lima Memorial Foundation took part in a black-tie event with networking, gourmet food, a live auction, and the fund-a-need paddle raise at Thursday night's Journey 2023. All proceeds and donations from the event will be put towards the creation of a dedicated observation unit at Lima Memorial to better care for patients presenting less urgent, but still serious health symptoms, like cardiac issues.
"Those patients now become observation status so that we can do the remaining blood work and the remaining stress tests or whatever needs to be done before we can get them out of the hospital. That is where having an observation unit would come into play. Those people will get the care they need in a timely manner, the most efficient, and they'd be home probably in 8-12 hours, whereas in a regular room, regular floor, it may take up to 24 hours," explained Dr. Mehran Arabpour, the System Cardiologist and Chest Pain Medical Director at Lima Memorial Health System.
Many facilities at Lima Memorial are made possible by the support of organizations and individuals who want to see better health care for the region.
"When you invest in local healthcare, you're making an investment in your friends, your neighbors, your family, maybe people you haven't even met. But we want to make sure that comprehensive healthcare is available when and if you need us," said Lynn Carpenter, Lima Memorial's Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Lima Memorial Health System adds that once complete, the observation unit will free up more beds for both cardiac and other patients.
