It was graduation day after a weeklong session at the Lima Noon Optimist’s Safety City. Family and friends came to support the efforts of these children as they got their certificates. The kids learned about stranger danger, bike safety, and how to call 9-1-1, and other important safety practices. All important things to keep them and their families safe.

Lyla Brenneman says, “I learned that bike safety, if you stop at a stop sign, you need to use a signal. And if you wanted to turn, you have to use certain signals too.”

Jimmie Makley says, “Pepper in the eyes would be you get them in the eyes. And soccer kick would be to kick them in the legs. (And why would you do that to someone?) It’s um, defense so you can, so like if they tried to take you.”

This is the first round of classes since the pandemic, and more than 250 kids will go through classes this summer.
