The Lima Police Department introduced four new officers on Wednesday and announced they are looking to hire up to 11 new officers in the near future.
There will be a civil service test on June 19th, and they are encouraging anyone interested in becoming an officer to apply to take the test.
Major Ron Holman explains, “When they first get hired and depending on whether they have been through the academy or not, we put them through a very strict background check, a polygraph, a physical. They take a psychological exam. And when they start, they go through a period of in-house training, and then they’ll do an 18-week on each shift, 6 weeks with a field training officer.”
Currently, there are 73 officers on the roster and there is a budgeted strength ordinance of 85. The deadline to submit an application to take the test is June 8th. You can get those on the city’s website or picked up at the Civil Service Board at 202 East High Street.
