LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Police Department is hoping to add another tool to its toolbox to fight crime in the city.
They are asking residents and businesses to be part of their new "Security Camera Database". It will be a list of contacts who have cameras and or video doorbells that could help in police investigations. By creating a list, it will speed up the process of finding out if any video related to a crime is available.
"Let's say for instance we had a homicide or a home invasion and it caught the car that the suspect was leaving in. What they can do, the officer or detective can get a hold of that resident and check their security cameras and get footage from that. That would actually help in their investigation to help possibly solve a crime," stated Lt. Matt Douglass, Lima Police Department.
The information submitted will only be used by the Lima Police Department and kept confidential. Registration is web-based and voluntary. You can contact Lt. Matt Douglass by phone at 419-221-5132 or email him at matt.douglass@cityhall.lima.oh.us with questions.
