LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It is downright bitter outside, and a local agency is concerned about those who may not have a place to stay to get out of the dangerous conditions.

Local assistance available for those facing homelessness

Many people are just one paycheck away from finding themselves in a financial emergency.

The West Ohio Community Action Partnership, or WOCAP, has several programs that can help anyone who is facing homelessness and doesn't have anywhere to get out of the weather safely. West Ohio Community Action Partnership says that many people are just one paycheck away from finding themselves in a financial emergency and that is what the agency can help them with.

"Homeless Crisis Response Plan: It's rehousing for homeless individuals and families. With that we can provide a deposit and three months rent for them to move into a rental to get them out of the homeless situation. We are talking literal homeless, so folks staying in shelters. People living in places not meant for human habitation. That meaning like their car, in a tent, things of that nature," explained Leora Donley, housing director for West Ohio CAP.

The West Ohio Community Action Partnership, or WOCAP, has several programs that can help anyone who is facing homelessness and doesn't have anywhere to get out of the weather safely.

They also provide case management and referrals to other agencies for other assistance such as food, child support, and Social Security determination. Donley says to remember their assistance is a hand up, not a handout.
