LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Two Lima families celebrated becoming homeowners Friday as New Lima – Housing for the Future and the City of Lima dedicated two new homes on the 1200 block of Hazel Avenue.
The modular homes were placed on the lots in August, with interior work completed in time for the families to move in before the holidays. David, Heather, Lily and Luca Magana showed off their new home and praised their experience working with New Lima.
“It's been excellent. They've been very friendly and outgoing people, it's been amazing experience,” said David Magana, new homeowner.
“It's great seeing it all come together after talking about it for so long now, to see the final product is amazing,” said Heather Magana, new homeowner.
Scott Frenger, executive director of New Lima – Housing for the Future, said the organization works to ease the stress of building a home while allowing families to personalize features such as colors, siding, roofing and flooring.
“This process, if anybody's built a house, it can be stressful. We try to take that off of our buyers shoulders, because they do get to be part of the development process, picking out colors, siding, roofing, flooring, things like that, but we take all of that stress off of them as we develop the house for them. It’s exciting for us, because it's so much work that goes into this, and seeing it roll out, and seeing their faces in the end, is the best part of the process,” Frenger said.
Officials said New Lima, the City of Lima and other partners plan to continue developing new housing for city residents.
“We know that housing nationwide is something that's needed, and we're going to do our part here in the city to continue these collaborations and bring as much housing as as we can, even though things have changed financially when it comes to the funds that we get, and we've had a decrease in those funds. But we're still able to maximize and pull together from other partners and bring things like this to the city of Lima,” said Carmilia Zion, director of Lima’s Housing and Neighborhoods.
New Lima is also working with Miller Family Homes on future projects as they explore other areas around the city for new home developments.
