A recommendation to ban cell phone use while driving is causing quite a debate. The National Transportation Safety Board surprised some this week by recommending a ban on all cell phone use while driving including hands-free alternatives.

The NTSB says even momentary distractions have proven deadly. Many law enforcement agencies around the country are applauding the recommendation and say cell phone use is just one more thing taking drivers' minds off the task at hand.

Many of us have been guilty of chatting on our phones while driving, and perhaps even more of us have horror stories of nearly being drilled by someone doing the same.

Drivers could still use gps or devices that aid driving and passengers wouldn't be affected.  Several states have already put their own cell phone bans or restrictions in place.

The ntsb says it will also urge auto and phone manufacturers to find ways to force drivers to hang up.
