KENTON, Ohio (WLIO) - Ohio Governor candidates are making their rounds in various counties to spark up some votes.

At the Hardin County Democrat President's Day Luncheon, Governor Candidate Amy Acton talked to supporters about the key issues she wants to tackle if elected. The Youngstown native spoke about overcoming struggles as she grew up, becoming a doctor, and also her time as the Director of the Ohio Department of Health during the pandemic. She says she sees Ohioans trying to overcome their struggles, as they face issues in public education and health care costs.

"I'm running because people in the state are struggling. They are doing everything right, they're working harder than they have ever worked. And, I refuse to look the other way while bad actors and special interest keep taking the state backwards on every measure. It is time for change in the state of Ohio. It is time for change," says Ohio Governor Candidate Amy Acton.

Acton also focused on rising healthcare costs, and federal changes to Medicaid that will impact Ohioans.

"We know work requirements are coming from Medicaid but we're not going to let them throw people off the rolls. It's a federal law starting in 27'. Most people on Medicaid are working, by the way, just so you know. And there are people who cannot work, and they're exemptions, and we are going to try and expand those," Acton adds.

Acton is the lone Democrat running for Governor, three republicans will be facing off in the primary election: Vivek Ramaswamy, Heather Hill, and Casey Putsch.
