JSMC may be receiving more than $2 billion in funding for equipment upgrades thanks to Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. That funding was secured by Senator Brown through the National Defense Authorization Act.
If the bill passes more than $520 million will go towards the continuation of Stryker vehicle upgrades. More than $1.7 billion would go towards upgrades to the Abrams Tanks. Senator Brown believes this will have a positive impact not only on JSMC but West Central Ohio as well.
“It’s important for our national defense, it’s important for Western Ohio jobs,” said Senator Brown. “They are important, well-paid union jobs,” said Senator Brown. “We’ll continue to fight for the tank plant and all that’s part of that.”
The Senate is expected to vote on the bill next week.
