ADA, OH (WLIO) - Ohio Northern University students are bringing the Ada community together to try and beat cancer one step at a time.

The students hosted a Relay for Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Campus organizations held different activities or sold items to bring in money for cancer research or to help those battling cancer. The students brought back the relay last year after taking a few years off because of COVID. Because they know how the disease affects their communities and the people they love.

“We are not just giving back to the community, but we are also helping those who are interested in cancer research or interested in giving back to the people that they lost from cancer,” says Ethan Giannotta, ONU Sophomore. “Because everyone has been affected by cancer. Everyone has dealt with someone in their family that had cancer, and it’s really just a way for them to give back.”

“We're really thankful that the community supports us so much, and being a small school, it’s nice to have the community involved,” says Chandler Clark, ONU Junior. “Everybody knows someone that has had cancer and has been impacted by cancer, so for me, it’s super important because I have had my own family and just bring everyone together for a good cause.”

Last year, the Polar Bears raised $12,000 for the American Cancer Society, and they are hoping to do that and more this year.
