ADA, OH (WLIO) - Basketball is a game of skill, and some young athletes sharpened theirs at Ohio Northern University on Tuesday morning.Â
Ohio Northern University hosted a skills camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Ohio Special Olympics for students in Bluffton, Kenton, and Ada. The last time a Special Olympics event was held at Ohio Northern University was before the pandemic, and the Polar Bear athletes were ready to help the young athletes with their shooting, passing, and dribbling skills. 138 student-athletes signed up to help, and they were excited for the day.Â
"I know this is something I have never experienced before. I have never been a part of anything with Special Olympics. So, being able to change these students' lives, even if it is just for two hours, I know not only for me but for all of our student-athletes here at ONU, it's something very special for us," says Payton Specht, Jr. & Pres., ONU Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
"It's been a few years since we have had a Special Olympics event on campus," says Mark Cruea, faculty and advisor for the ONU Student Athlete Advisory Committee. "So, we are very excited to bring it here, represent ONU, represent the community. It's a good day."
Besides the Polar Bears helping out, "Sir C.C." from the Cleveland Cavaliers was there to get the kids pumped up for a day of fun.Â
