A Michigan man is in jail after the Ohio State Highway Patrol seized nearly $75,000 worth of drugs during a traffic stop.

According to the highway patrol, the traffic stop was made on November 8th on I-75 in Shelby County. 22-year-old Daveonta Reid from Michigan was pulled over for a traffic violation and troopers noticed a smell of raw marijuana coming from the car.

After a search of the car, troopers found marijuana, hashish, oxycodone pills, and a loaded handgun. The estimated amount of the drugs seized is $74,280. Reid is facing three felony charges for drug possession and one charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of criminal tools.

If convicted he could be face up to 9 years in prison and $30,000 fine.

SIDNEY – Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers filed felony drug charges against a Michigan man after a traffic stop in Shelby County. During the traffic stop, troopers seized a .40 caliber handgun and 20 pounds of marijuana, 1 pound of hashish and 11 oxycodone pills valued at approximately $74,280.

On November 8, 2018, at 3:19 p.m., troopers stopped a 2010 Chevy Malibu with temporary Kentucky registration for an impeding traffic violation on Interstate 75. During interaction with the driver, troopers detected an odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed the contraband and loaded handgun.  

The driver, Daveonta Reid, 22, from Eastpointe, Mich., was incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail and charged with possession of marijuana and hashish, both third-degree felonies; improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; and possession of oxycodone-hydrochloride pills and criminal tools, both fifth-degree felonies.

If convicted, he could face up to 9 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.
