On Tuesday afternoon the Allen County 4-H club surprised parents Jaunte Jones and Quintez Frazier with blankets, a hat and other gifts for their newborn, Ka'oir Frazier.

Ka'oir is the first baby born this week at Lima Memorial and is one of close to a dozen babies who will receive gifts this week, as a part of 4-H week. The parents say they are truly grateful for the gifts and kind gestures made by the 4-H club.

“I had no idea,” said Jones. “When they came in and told me I was super excited, like ‘yes, send them in’. I appreciate all the gifts. They are really nice and I love this blanket.”

This is the fourth year the Allen County 4-H club has given out gifts to babies born during 4-H week. This year, they also handed out baby blankets made by 4-H members. This is a service project that the organizer says she hopes will raise awareness of the organization.

“One of the big things about 4-H is that we do always encourage all of our clubs to do service projects,” said Kelly Coble, a 4-H educator. “So we thought as a county this would be a great opportunity for us to include our clubs and also have a county-wide impact for us doing this service project.”

4-H is a youth development and mentoring organization for children ages eight to 18. Parents who are interested in enrolling their child are encouraged to visit allen.osu.edu.
