Plea deal taken by Shawnee teacher alleged to have a relationship with a student

The Shawnee teacher who allegedly had sexual contact with a female student agreed to a plea deal Tuesday morning.

28-year-old Kyle Baker pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery, each a third-degree felony, and one count of tampering with evidence. The state dismissed the remaining seven charges. The sexual battery count means Baker will have to register as a tier three sex offender. The maximum penalty he faces is 18 years in prison and up to a $40,000 fine.

Police arrested Baker back in December after a tip came in that he allegedly had a relationship with a then 14-year-old female student. The police witnessed Baker picking the teen up in his car, and follow them before they made the arrest. Baker will be sentenced on July 24, 2018.
