Portrait of Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman is unveiled in Columbus

A Lima lawmaker was honored with a portrait to remember his service as Ohio's Senate president.

They unveiled the official portrait of Matt Huffman to hang with the other Senate president portraits in the Ohio Statehouse. Huffman served four years as Senate president and will be moving to the House of Representatives in the new session that starts in January. He will be the first person to move from the Senate president's seat to the speaker of the House seat in back-to-back terms. Family, friends, and past and present elected officials were on hand for the dedication, and some spoke about his service as a state lawmaker.

"We summarize this by the plaque that you might see in my dad's office, DWYSYD, do what you said you would do. If you haven't seen it, you won't be able to miss it now. You can always expect when working with him, he will tell you exactly what he is going to do and then do it. Dad is a solutions guy, and he taught us to never feel like you are not good enough to be in a room or you are too good to be in the room and you can be part of a solution to any problem, big or small," says Ellen Mathias, Huffman's daughter.

"Even if nobody 100 years from now, and most likely, has ever heard of me, what we have is a beautiful portrait of some guy who was Senate President someday. And now it is a part of this building, and that is pretty cool to be part of all of it," says Matt Huffman.

The portrait will hang outside the Senate chamber as part of Ohio Statehouse history.
