Justin Barnhart

August 6, 2025, Press Release from Citizens for Barnhart:

OTTAWA, Ohio — Putnam County businessman Justin Barnhart has announced he will run for Putnam County Commissioner in the November 2026 election. The seat will open following the retirement of long-serving Commissioner John Schlumbohm. The Republican Primary will take place on May 5, 2026.

“At 38 years old, it’s time for a County Commissioner from my generation.  We need fresh new leadership,” said Barnhart.  “Families around here feel the pressure of rising prices from groceries and household goods.  We need to keep government spending in check and make sure families are not taxed out of their homes.”

Barnhart says if elected he will focus on sound money management and fair tax policy.  Local businesses will benefit from lower sales taxes when customers make large purchases.  Barnhart will encourage lowering Putnam County’s sales tax to match that of neighboring counties.

Barnhart brings experience from the private and public sector.  As Village Administrator in Leipsic, he helped bring the village out of state-declared fiscal emergency, adjusted water rates to benefit senior citizens and young families, and managed public construction improvements that came in under budget and on time.

Today, Barnhart runs All State Strategies, a business that helps average people and businesses navigate government and cut red tape.  His firm has helped farmers and small businesses gain $22M in grants.

Justin resides in Union Township with his wife Melissa (Verhoff) Barnhart and their four children.  Justin is an officer in the Kalida Holy Name Society and a 4-H Advisor.  Both Melissa and Justin are 2006 graduates of Kalida High School, they are members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and enjoy attending their children’s events.
