It has been since 2007 since the city has seen a new council president. John Nixon was appointed in 2007 and has decided not to run for re-election. Current council members Jamie Dixon and Todd Gordon have thrown their hat into the race. The Lima Allen County Neighborhoods in Partnership (LACNIP) is holding a candidates' debate so voters can make an informed decision come November.

"The race for president of city council can impact the coming legislation and the future of this community. It's our belief that an informed electorate is the basis of democracy and we want people to become involved. We want people to vote but also become knowledgeable about the issues that are taking place and what can be done about it," stated John Schneider, past president of LACNIP.

The debate will be Tuesday, October 3rd from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Saint Luke's Lutheran Church on West North Street. Residents will have the opportunity to write down questions just prior to the debate for the candidates to discuss. The moderator will choose from those questions to ask the candidates. The debate is open to the public.
