SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - The Shawnee High School Esports Team brings home another state championship title!
Juniors Owen Steidl and Caleb Mosier and senior Cohen Lampton were crowned 2024 Rocket League state champions by the Ohio High School Athlete Association after receiving the 2024 Rocket League regional championship. This afternoon, we traveled to Shawnee to talk with the trio champions about how they feel about bringing that state trophy back home.
"We definitely had some close calls like semifinals we almost lost, but when we finally made it to the end and like won, I think everyone was pretty excited. We all stood up and were very excited, I would say, so it was a pretty good season," explained Owen Steidl, a junior at Shawnee High School.
"A lot of work goes in behind the scenes that not many people see, and it was very rewarding finally winning state after so many tries," commented Caleb Mosier, a junior at Shawnee High School
"I've been in esports for four years since my freshman year, and the development of the teams around us, even as we play. Every year, it gets harder and harder the more we play, but we get better and better. And as Owen said, we did very well in the regular season, and it gets harder once it gets to state and regionals, so getting to state every year is awesome, but finally winning is very rewarding," stated Cohen Lampton, a senior at Shawnee High School.
The Shawnee Esports Team was also crowned the 2024 regional champions in Valorant and the 2024 regional runner-up in Overwatch.
