LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Kiwanis Club helps those who can't speak for themselves by supporting the agencies that care for them.

The club making donations to three area pet rescues. The money was raised from the club's virtual pet contest held during their 5K back in October. Deb's Dogs, A Lotta Love Pet Rescue, and the Ohio SPCA Humane Society of Allen County all received donations to help them continue their mission to help the neglected, abandoned, and injured animals in the area.

"These donations enable us to help with vet bills and supplies for our animals because we are all volunteer. Without these types of donations, it's really tough," commented Deb Helser, founder of Deb's Dogs.

"We got first aid kits for the canine corps of both the sheriff's department and the police department and this helps us replenish those supplies they need in there. We also got the masks for the fire departments to use on the animals and we can check around to see if any of them need to be replaced," said Sandy McVeigh, president and founder of A Lotta Love Pet Rescue.

"We already spay and neuter every animal that comes in. They're micro-chipped and all of their meds are done up to the point when we adopt them out. That gets expensive so it helps to do quality of care for our animals," stated Justin Cramer, shelter manager of Ohio SPCA Humane Society of Allen County.

Each recipient commended the Kiwanis for all they do in the community and said they hope to see some of their K-Club students volunteering with the animals.
