Two teens could be tried as adults for Collett shooting

The two teens charged in shooting on Collett Street on Mother's Day made their first appearance in juvenile court.

15-year-old Rakeem Jones and 17-year-old Kobe Bryant are facing two counts of delinquency by reason of felonious assault with a gun specification, one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises with a gun specification. Jones is facing an additional charge of carrying or concealing a weapon. The Allen County Prosecutors are looking to move their cases from the Juvenile Court to the Common Pleas Court so the teens can be tried as adults.

If they are tried as adults and found guilty they could be facing anywhere from 2 to 18 years in prison. The Lima Police Department says the incident that happened on May 14, 2017 started as a verbal argument between two groups of young black males and escalated into both sides firing multiple shots at each other in the 300 block of North Collett Street.

No one was injured during the shooting but shots did hit nearby homes and cars.
