Ohio State Lima held an informational workshop on autism and dyslexia for their faculty, staff, and students Monday.
The session offers information on the disorders and how it affects the way a student learns, communicates and socializes with others. Anna Boggs, executive director for the Center for Autism and Dyslexia says this workshop provides teachers more understanding into some of the struggles students with autism or dyslexia face and how to better support their success.
"I think it's really important for our educators to have an understanding of the people that they are teaching and knowing kind of a little bit of background gives them a whole toll box. It lets them pull and know like 'this is maybe what this kid is dealing with' and here are some possible remedies for them so I can help them be successful," said Boggs.
Boggs says many students who have autism or dyslexia struggle with organization skills, and the workshop gives teachers some tips on how to help with that.
