A five vehicle crash injures multiple people on I-75 north of Botkins

10/29/19 UPDATE:  Press release from Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol: The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating personal injury traffic crash involving four commercial vehicles and a pickup truck on IS 75 Southbound at mile post #104, Dinsmore Township, Shelby County. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on October 28, 2019, four commercial vehicles and a pickup truck were traveling southbound on IR 75 in the left lane of travel.  An independent witness reported that the first two commercials slowed for traffic ahead. The third commercial was unable to stop in the assured clear distance ahead and struck the rear trailer of the second commercial. The fourth commercial vehicle struck the rear trailer of the third commercial. The pickup truck struck the rear trailer of the fourth commercial vehicle. The traffic along this area was affected for approximately three hours with detours being assisted by ODOT and local police departments.           

Two commercial drivers endured serious injuries, were removed from the scene via Miami Valley Careflight, and transported to Miami Valley Hospital.  The pickup truck driver was transported to Saint Ritas Hospital via Anna Medic Squad.  Two of the commercial vehicles were removed by Mantor and Mayses Towing Service.  The pickup truck was removed by Elmers Towing Service.       

The Anna Police Department / Medic Squad, Botkins Police Department / Medic Squad, Wapakoneta Fire Department / Medic Squad, Van Buren Fire Department / Medic Squad, The Ohio Department of Transportation responded to the scene.  The Ohio State Highway Patrol Traffic Crash Reconstruction Sergeant E. Magoto and Trooper J. Smith responded to the scene.    

This traffic crash remains under investigation.

Your News Now at Six - 10/28/19

At least three people have been taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash happened on I-75 between Wapakoneta and Botkins this afternoon(10/28/19). The chain-reaction crash happened before 2 p.m. in the southbound lane just north of Botkins. Four semis and a pick-up truck were involved in the crash. Life Flight was called in and had to wait until two people could be removed from a semi cab that was crushed between the trailer it was pulling and the trailer that was in front of it.
