10/29/24 11:45 A.M. Update: According to the Findlay Police Department, the juvenile suspect has died.

FINDLAY, OH (WLIO) - Findlay Police say an officer-involved shooting occurred in the city during a foot pursuit by officers.

Officer-involved shooting occurs during foot pursuit at Bernard Park in Findlay

After officers arrived, a male juvenile suspect began to flee by foot, and an officer pursued him.

Just before 6:30 Monday evening, Findlay Police were dispatched to Bernard Park on a report of 3 juveniles drinking alcoholic beverages. After officers arrived, a male juvenile suspect began to flee by foot, and an officer pursued him. During the chase, the juvenile fired a gunshot at the officer, and the officer returned fire, hitting the male suspect. Findlay police officers then administered first aid. The suspect was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital and later transferred to a Toledo hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been contacted and will lead an investigation.


October 29, 2024, Press Release from the Findlay Police Department: Officers were dispatched to Benard Park (1105 Bernard Ave.) for a report of three juveniles consuming alcoholic beverages. Officers arrived and located the three juveniles at the park. During the investigation, a male suspect fled on foot and an officer pursued. During the foot pursuit, a male juvenile suspect discharged a firearm at the pursing officer. The pursuing officer returned fire, striking the juvenile suspect. Officers on scene immediately rendered first aid. The juvenile suspect was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital and later to a Toledo area hospital in critical, but stable condition. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was contacted and is leading the investigation.

The juvenile suspect has been pronounced deceased.
