VAN WERT, Ohio (WLIO) — The Van Wert Elks Lodge welcomed families to Camp Clay for a day full of free summer activities, offering children and community members a chance to beat the heat without paying an entrance fee.

The annual event is sponsored entirely by the Elks Club. For over a century, the organization has been committed to community service, especially supporting children, veterans, and family-friendly programs in the Van Wert area.

“This is our ‘Elks Day’ at Camp Clay. We’ve done this ever since the camp opened out here,” said Michael C. Stanley, secretary of the Van Wert Elks. “We pay for the camp for the day, so none of the people coming out — kids or any of them — have to pay any entrance fee. We do this each year as a way of giving back to the community to help out the kids. We do it for the kids.”

Hundreds of families attended the event, turning a hot summer afternoon into a day of fun.
