PUTNAM COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Christmas came early for around 30 veterans in Putnam County today.
The VFW Post 9142 was making stops at different nursing homes to drop off presents, one of the stops being the Meadows of Ottawa Senior Living Center. Each veteran received a hat and a lap blanket for them to use. The veterans appreciated that the VFW stopped by to honor their service and think about them around the holidays.
"Wonderful," says Carl Maag, who received a gift from the VFW. "We kind of wait for you guys to come every year, to give us a little something to remember you by. It is always a joy."
"We just appreciate the service of the guys that went before us," said Ken Wehri, Chaplain VFW Post 9142. "I am getting to the point where I am part of this group that is here too. To make them feel not forgotten, we remember them."
The VFW has been thanking veterans with a Christmas present for around 15 years now.
