Wapak Schools asking for public feedback on school safety

Wapakoneta City Schools are asking the community to take a survey surrounding security in the schools.

Superintendent Aaron Rex says that the survey was put together to hear people's feedback when it comes to school safety and whether or not people would be willing to pass a 1 mill levy for school resource officers in their school buildings.

So far, Rex has said that the response to the survey has been steady and that it's an important part of keeping students safe within the schools.

"This is one more step; I don't think you ever want to say that we didn't go above and beyond to keep our kids safe," said Rex. "Our goals are to let people know that we care about your kids, we're going to keep them safe, and we're going to provide an excellent learning experience. A school resource officer in every building is just one step more to let people know that we're going to keep your kids safe while they're here."

Rex says the survey can be found on the social media pages of the school system as well as local government and law enforcement. It's available to take for the next several months. Administration hopes to make the decision in time for the ballot next spring.
